Buettell, Womack promoted to Associate Athletic Director roles

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Vice President for Athletics Christopher Cross has announced the promotion of Abbey Buettell and Mark Womack to Associate Athletic Director positions within the Cedarville University Athletic Department.

Buettell has served at Cedarville since 2014 and joined the athletic department in 2022 as Assistant Athletic Director for Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator.

"Abbey has served Cedarville Athletics with excellence, providing outstanding leadership and oversight in compliance," Cross said. "Her ability to manage multiple responsibilities with professionalism and care has demonstrated her readiness to help lead our department at a higher level."

In her expanded role, Buettell continues to oversee all NCAA, Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), and institutional compliance matters. She represents the Yellow Jackets as Senior Woman Administrator at the conference and national levels and provides leadership for the department's Events and Facilities operations.

Prior to transitioning to athletics, Buettell spent eight years in the University's Student Life and Christian Ministry division. She also served as an adjunct professor in The Cove, Cedarville's academic enrichment center, where she assisted students in developing strategies for academic and personal success.

A 2011 graduate of Indiana Wesleyan University with a degree in sports ministry and biblical literature, Buettell earned a master's degree in Christian formation and ministry from Wheaton College in 2013.

Abbey and her husband, Stephen, reside in Cedarville with their son, Charlie.

Womack, meanwhile, is in his 43rd year of service at Cedarville and has served as the Yellow Jackets' first full-time sports information director since 1983.

"I am honored to serve alongside Mark at Cedarville University," Cross remarked. "This long-overdue promotion recognizes more than four decades of exemplary service to the University and our Athletic Department."

Womack coordinates all information and statistics for Cedarville's 18 varsity sports and oversees athletic marketing and promotions. He is a member of College Sports Communicators (formerly CoSIDA) and received the organization's 25-Year Award in 2008.

He previously served as Deputy Commissioner of the American Mideast Conference and as the league's sports information director from 1990 to 2012. In 2018-19, the Great Midwest Athletic Conference honored Womack and Assistant SID Jim Clark as the league's first-ever Sports Information Staff of the Year.

Womack produced the Yellow Jacket Sports Update for the CDR Radio Network from 1982 through 2010 and has provided play-by-play coverage for 10 different Yellow Jacket sports.

In 2000, he received the Clarence "Ike" Pearson Award, the NAIA-SIDA's highest honor for achievement in sports information. He also served on the NAIA Hall of Fame Committee from 1994 to 2011, including two terms as chair.

A 1983 Cedarville College graduate, Womack was a four-year member of the Yellow Jacket basketball and golf teams. He was inducted into the Cedarville University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001, received the Distinguished Service Award from the Alumni Association in 1993, and was named Cedarville University Staff Member of the Year for 2004-05.

Mark and his wife, Amy, also a Cedarville graduate, reside in Cedarville. They have three married daughters - all Cedarville graduates - and six grandchildren.
