Jackets slow down Racers to extend winning streak

LIMA, Ohio - Matt Harner scored 17 of his 21 points in the first half and the NAIA Division II No. 3 Yellow Jackets clamped down defensively in the second to defeat Northwestern Ohio, 71-58, for their 13th consecutive victory.

Cedarville, 21-1 overall and 6-0 in the American Mideast Conference, checked the host Racers on 8-for-30 shooting for 27 percent in the second period. That effort allowed the visitors to keep the margin anywhere from nine-to-15 points over the final 16 minutes of the contest.

The difference came at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second. The Racers, 10-11 and 2-2 AMC, had scored nine unanswered points for a 34-29 edge with 3:50 left in the initial period. However, CU engineered a 22-3 run over the next 11 minutes to take command.

Harner knocked down 9-of-13 shots from the field which included a trio of three-pointers. He also grabbed eight rebounds. Daniel Rose came off the bench with 14 points, seven boards, and three blocks. Ricardo Alliman produced 11 points and 10 rebounds, Chris Beals chipped in 11 points, and Derrick Hannon dished out a game-high six assists.

The Jackets continue to lead the country in field goal percentage defense (.370) and rank sixth in scoring defense (59.0 ppg). UNOH was held to 24 points over the last 24 minutes of the game. [STATS]
