Houghton shuts down Lady Jackets

XENIA, Ohio - Houghton got the only goal it needed in the 20th minute and used its patented stingy defense to record a 1-0 American Mideast Conference victory over Cedarville at the Athletes in Action Complex.

The Highlanders, 9-1-2 overall and 6-1 AMC, came into the match having yielded one goal all season long albeit a 1-0 home upset loss to Notre Dame (Ohio). They weren't about to let the hosts find the net though the Lady Jackets did create some chances.

Houghton had an 8-7 margin in overall shots, but both squads tallied five shots on goal. Freshman keeper Alysia Bennett was credited with four saves.

Cedarville, 5-5-1 and 3-2-1 AMC, has allowed just four goals in its previous seven outings. The match was played at AIA because of wet conditions at Yellow Jacket Field. [STATS]
