XENIA, Ohio - Ryan Chaney scored the game's only goal and the Cedarville defense hunkered down for a 1-0 decision over Roberts Wesleyan in an American Mideast Conference match played at the Athletes in Action Complex.
The contest was played in a steady rain with conditions growing increasingly worse as the wind picked up in the second half. The venue was moved to the field turf at AIA because Yellow Jacket Field was too soggy in the first place.
CU, 7-2-2 overall and 2-0-1 AMC, got the score it needed in the 53rd minute. Joseph Mueller sent a pass into the middle of the field to James Twinem, who in turn touched the ball down the right flank to Chaney. The senior co-captain beat a Raiders' defender and the oncoming keeper to the ball and slipped a hard shot inside the near post.
Roberts Wesleyan turned up intense pressure in the final minutes and even hit the crossbar with 1:45 left. Kevin Bender made four saves and notched his fourth shutout of the season.
The Raiders had the advantage in shots overall, 12-7, and shots on goal, 5-3, but dropped to 5-5 overall and 4-1 AMC. [STATS]
