CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Yellow Jackets and Mid-Continent netted identical goals one minute apart midway through the second half in what resulted in a 1-1 draw in the Dave Jones Memorial Classic.
The visiting Cougars, 1-1-1 overall and receiving votes in the NAIA poll, struck first. Mid-Continent was presented a free kick in the 64th minute just off the right side of the penalty area which was ultimately headed in.
It took just 61 seconds for Cedarville to equalize in the exact same fashion. An MCU foul outside the right portion of the box gave the home team a restart. James Twinem found Eric Newman with the rookie getting his first collegiate goal on a header.
Opportunities were slim in the two 10-minute overtime periods with Mid-Continent getting three shots to just one for CU.
Kevin Bender tallied four saves in goal for the Yellow Jackets, 3-1-1, and unbeaten in their last four matches. The Cougars had the edge in shots overall, 13-7, and in shots on goal, 5-3. [STATS]
