Belleman notches 100th win at Cedarville

PORTSMOUTH, Ohio - Men's soccer coach Ben Belleman registered his 100th victory at Cedarville when the Yellow Jackets opened the American Mideast Conference season with a 3-0 win at Shawnee State.

It took an own goal to break a scoreless tie in the first minute of the second period when a Shawnee State defender knocked the ball into the Bears' net. It remained a 1-0 difference until the final 10 minutes.

Matt Niemiec tallied his team-high fourth goal of the season on an assist from Ryan Chaney in the 82nd minute. Jonathan Blauert completed the scoring in the 85th minute with James Twinem assisting.

It was the third shutout of the campaign for goalkeeper Kevin Bender, who was called upon to make two saves. Cedarville improved to 5-2-1 overall.

The Jackets dominated the match statistically. CU outshot the Bears 23-4 overall and 12-2 in shots on goal.

Belleman upped his career mark at his alma mater to 100-65-14 in eight-plus seasons. He became the second coach in the Jackets' 47-year men's soccer history to reach 100 victories joining his former coach, John McGillivray, who racked up 215 wins from 1974-97. [STATS]
