FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Lady Jackets opened play at the University of Saint Francis Challenge with setbacks to Indiana Wesleyan and the host Cougars.
In the first match of the day, IWU got the better part of Cedarville 25-18, 23-25, 25-13, 22-25, 15-6. The Jackets have now split six five-set outcomes this fall.
Kylee Husak was again the leader at the net with 19 kills and three blocks. The junior middle hitter also became the 17th Lady Jacket to reach the 1,000 career kill plateau. Emily Shade provided support with 12 kills as did Sarah Hartman with three blocks. Erica Bartholomew totaled 44 assists while Heather Kirkpatrick finished with 19 digs. [STATS]
Saint Francis, who lost a five-set marathon at Cedarville two weeks ago, returned the favor and then some with a three-set sweep. The scores were 25-23, 25-21, 25-18.
The Lady Jackets, 6-14 overall, failed to place anyone in double figures in the kills category as Husak paced the squad with nine. Shade provided eight kills and a team-high three blocks, Bartholomew had 29 assists, and Kirkpatrick led the back row with 12 digs. [STATS]
