CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Matt Niemiec scored two goals and assisted on two others to lead Cedarville to a 6-2 non-conference victory over visiting Cincinnati Christian to get the Todd Beall era started off on the right foot.
Beall, a former four-year player for the Yellow Jackets, is the school's eighth head men's soccer coach. Only one of the previous seven lost his debut and that occurred in the first match in the history of the program in 1963.
The Yellow Jackets wasted little time when Ryan Thurman finished off a pass from Niemiec in the 4th minute. Niemiec converted a penalty kick in the 21st minute before ripping in a shot off a nice feed from Timmy Waller in the 31st for a 3-0 halftime lead.
Cincinnati Christian had the better part of play through the first half hour of the second period and finally tallied in the 57th minute. Niemiec and Todd McKinley set up James Twinem for a score in the box in the 78th.
The Eagles, 0-2, found the net on a restart in the 85th minute and then the Jackets finished things off with two unassisted scores. Joseph Mueller cleaned up a scramble in the box and Waller scored through a crowd for his first career goal.
Cedarville outshot CCU 28-9 overall and 16-4 in shots on goal. Kevin Bender was credited with two saves.
The six goals were the most scored by the Yellow Jackets since blanking Shawnee State, 6-0, at home two years ago.
