CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Matt Niemiec's spinning, close range shot for a goal in the 93rd minute gave Cedarville a dramatic 3-2 victory in overtime against Indiana Wesleyan in the final match of the Dave Jones Memorial Classic.
Ryan Thurman set up the winning tally by maneuvering through the IWU defense on the left side of the penalty area. He found Niemiec, who had sealed his defender on his back near the six-yard line. The senior forward quickly spun to his left and deposited a low hard shot into the net for his sixth goal of the campaign.
Cedarville, 3-2 overall, never trailed in the contest. The Jackets struck in the 3rd minute when Eric Newman redirected a shot just inside the post off of a Jason Bender assist. The Wildcats tied it up in the 15th minute.
CU regained the lead in the 30th minute. Thurman was taken down in the box and James Twinem calmly converted the penalty kick. IWU, 2-4, knotted the score at 2-2 prior to intermission with a header in the 35th minute.
