CU advances with 1-0 win over Urbana

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Sarah Brownfield's first career goal provided the Lady Jackets with a 1-0 result against Urbana in the opening round of the Ohio Independent Championship.

The #4 seed Jackets, 7-7-2 overall, advance to play Final Four host and #1 seed Notre Dame (Ohio) on Friday at 7:00 p.m. in the semifinals. The first match features #3 Ursuline against #2 Walsh at 5:00. Saturday's championship match is set for 5:00.

Ironically, Cedarville's last match was one week ago at home, also against Urbana. In that 2-0 win, it was Sarah's twin sister, Rachel Brownfield, who tallied both goals.

This time, Sarah was in the right place in the 70th minute. She gathered the ball some 25 yards in front of the goal and her shot struck the crossbar.

The ball then ricocheted off the keeper, who attempted to control it. However, she fell back into the goal as the assistant referee declared the ball had crossed the line.

Statistically, Cedarville dominated the contest by outshooting the Blue Knights 19-2 overall and 11-0 in shots on goal. The differential was 14-1 in the second half alone.

Keri Sachtleben still gets credit for the shutout despite not having to make a save.
