CEDARVILLE, Ohio -
Brian Hecker led a balanced offense with 14 points while the Yellow Jacket defense did its part in tying up Mount Vernon Nazarene for a 79-56 victory in the Callan Athletic Center.
Cedarville sprinted out of the blocks by scoring the game's first 11 points. After the Cougars snuck back to within 16-12, the Yellow Jackets answered with a 15-point run and maintained control the rest of the way.
It was 39-15 late in the first half and 41-20 by the intermission. MVNU showed signs of life after getting as close as 15 points five minutes into the final period. However, the Jackets responded with another uprising to push the margin to a game-high 73-44 spread with five minutes left.
Zimmy Nwogbo tallied 13 points with nine rebounds for Cedarville, 2-0.
Zach Brown totaled 11 points and six assists while
Daniel Hickman came off the bench with 11 points.
MVNU, who entered the game 4-1 and averaging 81 points per contest, was held to 26 percent shooting in the first half and 35 percent for the game. The Yellow Jackets controlled the boards, 40-27.
