Cedarville edged by Oilers in first road game

FINDLAY, Ohio - NCAA Division II No. 7 Findlay used a hot-shooting performance to hand Cedarville its first loss of the season, 90-84.

The Oilers, 3-1 overall, blistered the nets with a 54 percent accuracy from the field including a 57 percent effort in the second half. Additionally, the hosts uncharacteristically nailed 11-of-19 three pointers.

Findlay turned the game around in the final three minutes of the opening period. After trailing by as much as eight points, the Oilers finished the frame with an 11-2 spurt for a 45-36 lead at the break.

UF slowly pushed the difference to 70-58 with 10:30 left when the Yellow Jackets responded. Cedarville twice got back within four points, the last of which was 87-83 on a Zach Brown trey at the 2:08 mark.

The Jackets had the ball in hand with a minute remaining down 89-84. However, they missed four three-point attempts coming down to the final buzzer.

Freshman guard Marcus Reineke tied a school record by making all five of his three-point attempts and finished with a career-high 17 points. He was joined in double figures by Brian Grant (16), Brown (14), Austin Foote (13), and Zimmy Nwogbo (12).

Cedarville, 3-1, was impressive from the field as well by shooting 51 percent overall and hitting 11-of-21 threes. The Jackets held a 33-26 rebounding edge but committed more turnovers, 17-9, including 12 in the first half.

Findlay, who had its 71-game homecourt winning streak snapped in its previous contest on campus, entered the game shooting 44 percent from the field overall and 29 percent outside the arc.
