RENO, Nev. - NCAA Division I Nevada struggled with the Yellow Jackets before pulling away in the final two minutes for a 71-61 victory at the Lawlor Events Center.
The Wolf Pack, 10-3 overall, won for the seventh straight time. However, it was anything but easy.
Austin Foote's three-pointer brought CU within 65-60 with 1:55 left. Nevada then grabbed a critical offensive rebound and converted a three-point play at the 1:15 mark to gain some breathing room.
Cedarville, 6-5, recovered nicely from a 15-4 deficit in the first half. The Jackets stunned the hosts by opening up a 36-27 lead with 3:55 to go following one of
Daniel Hickman's four treys.
Nevada scored the final 11 points for a 38-36 advantage at the break. While the Wolf Pack never relinquished the lead in the second half, they could not push the margin to any more than eight points until the final minute.
Hickman hit all four of his three-point shots and finished with a team-high 15 points off the bench. Foote chipped in 10 points and
Zimmy Nwogbo pulled down eight rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets shot 56 percent from the floor in the first half, but cooled off to end the game at 46 percent. They converted 10-of-21 attempts from beyond the arc.
Nevada outscored Cedarville 17-1 at the free throw line as the Jackets were whistled for a 23-10 foul differential. The Wolf Pack had a 36-29 edge on the boards.
This was CU's first regular season game against an NCAA Division I opponent since pulling off a 68-66 upset at Wright State on Nov. 25, 2003.
