CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville was the beneficiary of an own goal in the final minutes and came away with a 1-0 win over visiting Mount Vernon Nazarene.
The two teams played on equal terms for the bulk of the match with neither able to cash in on a handful of opportunities. The Lady Jackets finally broke through in the 87th minute.
Cedarville created a scramble in the box with the ball near the goal line. An MVNU player attempted to clear it away, but it deflected off of a teammate and trickled in for the only tally of the night.
CU outshot the Cougars 15-10 overall and 6-3 in shots on goal.
Elizabeth Cox was credited with three saves in goal and registered her first career shutout.
Corner kicks were even at two apiece. However, the hosts were whistled for 10 offsides.
Cedarville has suddenly enjoyed some success against the Cougars, who still hold a 9-3-2 lead in the all-time series. It was the third straight time that the Yellow Jackets have blanked MVNU as they had a win and a scoreless tie last fall.
