Quick starts propels CU to 5-1 result

Box Score CEDARVILLE, Ohio - The Yellow Jackets netted three goals in the first eight minutes and rode the wave of momentum to a 5-1 win over visiting Salem International in a non-conference men's soccer contest.

Cedarville, 13-1-1 overall, needed just 66 seconds for Connor Scott to get the scoring underway. He dribbled into the right side of the penalty area and ripped a shot off of a Tiger defender and inside the near post.

Scott then set up Jared Newman for a tally in the 7th minute. Todd McKinley followed with a finish behind the SIU back line 1:35 later to make it 3-0 with Timmy Waller assisting.

Ethan Shula expanded the margin to 4-0 in the 19th minute. He took a pass on the right flank from Grant Kovac and drilled a hard shot from 20 yards away.

The Tigers, 7-5, finally solved the CU defense in the 57th minute. However, Jeremy Hoppe completed the scoring from the top of the box in the 71st on a feed from Waller.

Cedarville had the edge in shots overall, 13-8 and on goal, 8-3. Ethan Dewhurst made two saves.
