Zimmy Nwogbo scored 21 points to lead No. 1 seed Cedarville to an 88-68 win over No. 8 Truett-McConnell (Ga.) in the first round of the NCCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship hosted by Grace College.
The Yellow Jackets will play No. 4 Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) in Thursday's semifinals at 8:45 p.m.
Cedarville, 21-9 overall, took a 35-31 lead at halftime and quickly opened up a 10-point spread early in the second period. The Yellow Jackets shot 57 percent from the field over the final 20 minutes to pull away from the Bears, 14-20.
Bryan Redic tallied 14 points while
Austin Foote added 12.
Brian Grant had 9 points and 8 rebounds, and
Daniel Hickman came off the bench with 9 points and 4 assists.
All 11 Yellow Jackets in uniform played and 10 scored. Cedarville held a 42-33 advantage on the boards with Nwogbo pulling down seven.
After struggling from the free throw line in the first half (5-for-11), CU cashed in on 18-of-25 attempts in the second period.
