WINONA LAKE, Ind. - The No. 1 seed Yellow Jackets placed five players in double figures and slowed down No. 4 Southwestern Assemblies of God for a 74-56 semifinal win at the NCCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.
Cedarville, 22-9 overall, meets No. 6 Emmanuel (Ga.) for the title on Saturday with tip-off at 5:00 p.m.
After giving up the first basket of the game to the high-scoring Lions, CU responded with the next 11 markers and never trailed again. It was a slim 26-24 difference at the break before the Jackets took over on both ends of the court.
The margin reached double figures in the opening five minutes of the second period. Cedarville shot 54 percent from the field in the final half and hit 17-of-21 free throws.
In the meantime, the Jackets turned in one of the top defensive efforts of the campaign. SAGU, who falls to 26-11, entered averaging 80 points per game. But, the Lions were held to a season-low offensive output while shooting just 32 percent from the field.
Brian Grant totaled 14 points while
Zimmy Nwogbo had a double-double of 13 points and 14 rebounds.
Zach Brown and
Austin Foote had 12 points each and
Daniel Hickman added 11. Brown also handed out a game-high eight assists.
