Cedarville dodges Urbana for OIC title berth

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Bryan Redic came through with a career-high 20 points as the No. 1 seed Yellow Jackets held off No. 5 Urbana, 77-74, in an Ohio Independent Championship semifinal in the Callan Athletic Center.

Cedarville, 19-8 overall, earned the right to face No. 2 Walsh in Saturday's championship at 6:00 p.m. The Cavs edged No. 3 Central State, 77-73, in the other semi.

Daniel Hickman converted a one-and-one with 4.1 seconds left to account for the final. Urbana failed to make a three-pointer at the end that would have forced overtime.

The upset-minded Blue Knights just would not go away despite the Jackets getting off to quick starts in both halves. Urbana turned around a 16-7 deficit into a five-point cushion late in the first period. However, CU forged a 37-37 tie on Zach Brown's 30-footer at the halftime buzzer.

A run of 11 straight points staked the Yellow Jackets to a 50-38 advantage six minutes into the final half. The Knights needed just four minutes to erase the deficit and they had their final lead, 71-70, with 3:10 to play.

Austin Foote broke the game's seventh and final tie with a baseline jumper for a 75-73 lead at the 1:10 mark. With the score 75-74, Urbana rimmed out a three-pointer with seven seconds left setting up Hickman's free throws.

Redic hit 8-of-9 shots from the field including all three of his three-pointers. Brown finished with 15 points, Foote tallied 14, and Brian Grant added 11. Urbana ends the season, 9-19.
