@CUSoccer locks up Eagles, 2-0

Box Score LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - Zack Gatlin and Jeremy Hoppe netted second half goals as Cedarville rebounded for a 2-0 non-conference victory at Lock Haven.

The Yellow Jackets, 5-1-2 overall and playing their fifth consecutive road match, recovered nicely from their lone setback of the season, but it took a little while to get on the board.

Gatlin ripped a shot from outside the penalty area that skipped through the keeper's legs for his second goal of the fall in the 58th minute. Christian Alexander was credited with an assist.

Hoppe tucked in his first of the year in the 66th following a wild exchange in front of the Lock Haven net.

Ethan Dewhurst made two saves in what resulted in his fifth shutout of the season. His 12 career shutouts in less than two seasons already ranks third on the Yellow Jackets' all-time list.

"The guys showed a good level of toughness and resilience today to get a win and a shutout," remarked Interim Head Coach Brett Faro. "It took us a bit to get into a rhythm, but we played very well in the second half and wore them down a bit.

"It's good to get back on track and important to get a win to start a three-game week. Our challenge is to be consistent. It's something this team is growing into and starting to develop."

CU had the edge in shots overall, 13-4, and in shots on goal, 8-2. The host Bald Eagles, 2-5, is in the midst of its first five-game losing streak in 11 years.

The Jackets close out their six-match road swing at Ohio Valley on Thursday in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference contest. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
