Connor Gilmour scored three goals and
Christian Alexander netted two more as Cedarville drilled Ohio Valley, 9-0, in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference match.
It marked the biggest offensive explosion for the Yellow Jackets since Sept. 9, 2005 when they hammered Mount St. Joseph, 10-0.
Gilmour chipped his first goal of the night over the keeper's head when the match was barely two minutes old. Goalkeeper
Ethan Dewhurst dropped kicked a 60-yarder that the junior forward ran down to flick in.
CU's second goal by
Zachary Harris came in the 18th minute with a heavy price. The junior midfielder finished off a pass at the goal line but was simultaneously kicked in the right shin. He was carried off the field and didn't return to action.
Gilmour scored in the 23rd minute.
Michael Auld,
Kyle Nikerle, and
Jon Brown all tallied their first collegiate goals before the intermission for a 6-0 bulge.
In the second period, Gilmour converted a PK while Alexander finished the contest with back-to-back goals. The Jackets totaled nine assists led by Brown and
Aaron Plummer with two apiece.
Cedarville, 5-2-2 and 2-0-1 G-MAC, enjoyed a sizeable advantage in shots overall, 31-6, as well as on goal, 19-1. Dewhurst and
Graham Sachtleben combined for the shutout in goal. OVU falls to 0-10 and 0-4 G-MAC.
The Yellow Jackets host non-conference foe Shawnee State in the annual Homecoming match on Saturday at 6:00.
