Box Score ELKINS, W.Va. -
Chris Anderson and
Connor Gilmour tallied late first-half goals as Cedarville recorded an important 2-0 Great Midwest Athletic Conference victory at Davis & Elkins.
The Yellow Jacket defense rose to the occasion again. It was their third straight shutout of the season and the fifth in the last six outings.
"Today was a good win for this team and certainly an important conference win on the road," said Head Coach
Brett Faro, whose team improved to 7-2-2 overall and 3-0-1 G-MAC. "We did well to go on the road and take care of what we needed to. Both teams were a little banged up and we knew it would be a tough contest.
"I thought our back line did very well to limit their opportunities and earn another shutout. As always, our focus continues to be on finding ways to get better as a group and to make sure we are putting ourselves in a good position to peak at the right time."
Anderson broke a scoreless tie with his third goal of the season unassisted in the 40th minute. Gilmour netted his seventh just 33 seconds before intermission with
Aaron Plummer assisting.
Goalkeepers
Paulo Pinto and
Ethan Dewhurst shared the team's seventh shutout of the year. The Yellow Jackets had the advantage in shots overall (14-7) and on goal (7-3).
It's the only meeting of the regular season between defending G-MAC champion Cedarville, who is the pre-season pick to win the league again, and the runner-up Senators, who are picked to place 2nd.
The Jackets host Slippery Rock in a non-conference game on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
