Box Score CEDARVILLE, Ohio -
Ethan Lee's remarkable tally in the 90th minute leveled the match as Cedarville and Trevecca eventually finished with a 2-2 tie in two overtimes in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener for both schools.
The Yellow Jackets, 2-1-2 and pre-season picked to repeat as G-MAC champions, played their second straight OT contest and third overall. They have never lost to the Trojans in six meetings (5-0-1).
"I think Trevecca is a good team," remarked Head Coach
Brett Faro. "They're fast, athletic, and gave us trouble in the counter attack. After we went up 1-0, then down 2-1, and to score with a minute to go showed a lot of fight from our guys. We expected a battle and that's what we got."
Daniel Rigby broke the scoreless match in the 58th minute from the six-yard line when he cleaned up
Ethan Shula's cross. However, Trevecca answered with goals in the 73rd and 79th minutes to claim the lead.
CU pressed forward and produced the equalizer with 59 seconds on the clock.
Connor Gilmour launched a long cross from the right sideline to just inside the penalty area where Lee, who in one scissors-kick motion, looped the ball over the keeper for his first career goal.
"Scoring in the final third and creating opportunities have been something we've worked on all week - just being quality around the box," said Faro. "It was right place at the right time - both the crosser and finisher produced absolute quality."
Trevecca is 2-3-1 on the young season. Cedarville hosts Kentucky Wesleyan in another G-MAC contest on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
