CU stymied at Mercyhurst

Box Score ERIE, Pa. - NSCAA Division II #13 Mercyhurst scored just a little more than three minutes into the match and rode the momentum to a 2-0 result over the Yellow Jackets in a non-conference match.

It remained a 1-0 difference through the intermission. The Lakers tallied again in the 51st minute to take control while winning their third straight match.

"Mercyhurst is a good team," admitted Head Coach Brett Faro. "They're very dangerous, very big, all international, and know how to attack.

"We came out in both halves a little flat and paid for it with a quick goal in each half. We created some good chances at times, hit a post in the second half, and their keeper made a big save on a breakaway by Gilmour late."

The Lakers, the unanimous pre-season choice to win the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, improved to 7-2 overall. Cedarville drops to 4-2-2 following the first-ever men's soccer meeting between the two schools.

Faro added, "There is just no room for error against top teams like Mercyhurst and we weren't quite as sharp as we needed to be. They're a good team and made it difficult for us at times. We will continue to build off of this game and look ahead to two games back home this weekend."

The Jackets host Ohio Valley in a G-MAC doubleheader with the women on Thursday. The CU men will play the first match at 4:30 p.m.
