Zachary Harris found the net twice and Cedarville limited visiting Saint Joseph's (Ind.) to one shot on goal en route to a convincing 4-0 result before 974 fans in the 2014 season opener.
Harris headed in a cross from
Connor Scott from the six-yard line in the 4th minute. Scott made it 2-0 with a hard, low shot to the near post on an assist from
Christian Alexander in the 13th minute.
Joel Twinem finished off a restart from
Ethan Shula in the 24th. Harris ended the scoring in the 55th minute when his direct kick went off the keeper's hands.
"We take pride in our defense and we want that to be a byproduct of a good offense," explained Head Coach
Brett Faro. "Our whole team from front-to-back did a good job tonight.
"I think it was a good start. We came out well, we stayed disciplined, created opportunities, and took advantage of a few of those in the first half. We were able to get a lot of guys in which is helpful to see some different looks this early in the year."
The shot differential was 19-5 overall and 10-1 on goal.
Paulo Pinto started in goal and logged the first 45 minutes.
Ethan Dewhurst played the entire second half and made one save.
Cedarville embarks on a two-match road swing beginning with a trip to Saginaw Valley State (Mich.) on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
