D&E stifles Yellow Jackets, 1-0

Box Score ELKINS, W.Va. - Davis & Elkins made an early goal stand up for a 1-0 victory over Cedarville in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference tussle.

The Senators netted a free kick in the 18th minute and that's all they needed for their second straight shutout.

D&E, 3-5-2 overall and 1-4-2 G-MAC, pocketed their first conference win of the season at the expense of the Jackets, 8-3-1 and 5-2 G-MAC.

The hosts outshot CU 6-5 in the first half, but the Yellow Jackets dominated the final 45 minutes with an 11-2 shot margin. However, they failed to score for just the second time this season.

Paulo Pinto played all 90 minutes in goal and made two saves.

Quotable: Head Coach Brett Faro

"Obviously, we're disappointed in the result. We gave up an early goal on a free kick and it can be tough playing from behind especially on the road.

"The guys responded and I thought we outplayed them the rest of the game. We just couldn't score. It's time to regroup and prepare for AB on Saturday."

Numbers Game:
  • It was CU's first 1-0 setback since 9/6/14 at Saginaw Valley State in two overtimes.
  • The Jackets have dropped back-to-back matches for the first time since losing three straight early in the 2011 season.
  • D&E has scored more than one goal only once this fall - a 2-1 win at Indianapolis in the season opener.
  • The all-time series is tied, 3-3-1, and each team has scored six goals apiece.
