CU gets defensive in road victory

Box Score PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Patrick Bain keyed a late 10-point run and Cedarville held host Lake Erie to nearly 30 points below its average for a 59-52 non-conference win.

The defensive lockdown provided the Yellow Jackets, 5-5, with their fifth straight victory. LEC drops to 5-4.

Successive three-pointers provided the Storm a 50-48 edge with 4:08 remaining. That's when CU went on its decisive spurt of 10 unanswered points - five by Bain.

A layup by J.C. Faubion tied the score for the final time. Bain followed with a dunk and another basket to give the visitors the lead for good.

Faubion led four players in double figures with 15 points. Easton Bazzoli scored 11 points while Bain and Robert Okoro added 10 each.

The Yellow Jackets won the battle of the boards, 43-37. Okoro grabbed a team-high seven rebounds with six apiece coming from Faubion and Kwenton Scott.

Lake Erie entered the contest averaging 80.9 points per game including impressive back-to-back wins over Grand Valley State, who visits CU on Saturday, and Hillsdale. The Storm's lowest output in a contest thus far had been 68 points.

Quotable: Head Coach Pat Estepp

"That was a great win against a very good team for our young guys! Lake Erie is one of the better shooting teams we have played and I couldn't be prouder of our effort on the defensive end.

"We made them work for their shots and we rebounded well which allowed us to put pressure on them in transition. A lot of guys stepped up and made plays at different times.

"As young as we are, to not fold when they made their run in the second half, and to regroup and make a run of our own speaks to the growth we are making.

"We will enjoy this one until they wake up, then it's time to get ready for Walsh. That was probably the greatest rivalry we had during the last 10 years we were in NAIA.

"This schedule is a bit unorthodox, but we felt it would prepare us for the conference tournament and the possibility of playing a team with a bye if we are fortunate enough to win. I am looking forward to see how we bounce back tomorrow."
