Jackets bend, but don’t break in win at Ohio Valley

Box Score VIENNA, W.Va. - J.C. Faubion scored 18 points including the go-ahead basket late in the game to guide the Yellow Jackets to a 68-64 result at Ohio Valley for their first G-MAC win.

Cedarville, 7-9 overall and 1-2 G-MAC, either led or was tied for all but four seconds of the second half. However, the visitors had to deal with three ties the last of which was 64-64 with 2:18 remaining.

Faubion answered with a field goal to give the Jackets the lead for good and Justice Montgomery clinched the outcome with a pair of free throws in the final seconds.

After facing its only deficit of the second half just a minute in, the Jackets ran off the next 11 points for their largest lead of the contest, 52-42, at the 15:30 mark.

The Fighting Scots needed just a little more than three minutes to tie it up and it was tight the rest of the way.

Easton Bazzoli finished with 15 points. Robert Okoro totaled career-highs of 13 points and 12 rebounds while Montgomery chipped in 10 points.

Quotable: Head Coach Pat Estepp

"I'm really proud of our guys today! That was a tale of two opposite halves for both teams. The first half was transition and high scoring while the second half was a grind.

"We really stepped up and defended in the second half. They did not score a field goal in their last 11 possessions.

"We had much better balance in our scoring. Even though we did not get many points off the bench, that is the best defense our bench has played in a while.

"OVU is much better than their record. They have played by far the toughest schedule in our league and we knew this would be a difficult game to win.

"I thought Bazzoli did a great job attacking the basket. Montgomery, Faubion and Bain all stepped up and made big plays. But, Okoro probably had his best game in a CU jersey. He was big on both ends of the floor and on the boards."
