Cedarville, Fighting Scots battle to 1-1 draw

Box Score VIENNA, W.Va. - The Yellow Jackets and Ohio Valley traded first half goals and eventually settled for a 1-1 G-MAC draw in the regular season finale for both sides.

Cedarville, 9-6-3 and 7-3-2 G-MAC, will host Kentucky Wesleyan in a first round conference tournament game on Saturday.

The Yellow Jackets are the three-time defending G-MAC champions.

Derek Braak put CU on the board first in the 21st minute with his second goal of the year. Bryce Childers and Bradley Schluter assisted.

The Fighting Scots equalized just 34 seconds before the intermission.

OVU owned the shot advantage 19-7 overall and 6-4 on goal. Senior keeper Paulo Pinto logged the full 110 minutes and made five saves.

Quotable: Head Coach Brett Faro

"Today was a back-and-forth battle with two quality teams. I thought a draw was probably a fair result given the circumstances and the flow of the game.

"There were certainly things we were pleased with and other aspects that we struggled with at times in the game. We really stepped up in the second half and overtime to put them under a lot of pressure. OVU is a good team and we will certainly take some things from this game and learn from them.

"We are still looking to put together a full 90 minutes at the level we are capable of. We've seen glimpses, but it's going to take quality for 90 minutes to get results in the G-MAC Tournament and that's what we will be working toward this week."

Five Facts:
  • The two sides combined for 22 corner kicks.
  • Cedarville leads the all-time series, 6-1-1.
  • The Yellow Jackets finished the regular season unbeaten in the last seven games (5-0-2).
  • The defense has allowed one goal or less in nine of the last ten outings.
