Early goals propel Jackets past AB

Box Score CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Sebastian Duque and Bryce Childers scored twice within two minutes as Cedarville knocked off Alderson Broaddus, 2-1, in a G-MAC men's soccer encounter.

Duque headed in his second goal of the season in the 10th minute from John Schwien off a set piece near the right corner following an AB foul.

Exactly two minutes later, Schwien's corner kick from the left flag found the head of Childers six yards out for a 2-0 lead.

It stayed that way until the Battlers took advantage of a steal and score in the 75th minute to account for the final.

Alderson Broaddus outshot the hosts 19-15 overall including 13-7 in the second period. The Battlers also put more on goal, 9-7.

Paulo Pinto matched his career-high with eight saves for the Yellow Jackets, 5-6-1 overall and 4-3-1 G-MAC.

Quotable: Head Coach Brett Faro

"This is a big win. I think AB is one of the most dangerous teams in the conference. It's just a good momentum builder for us.

"We've had some tough breaks and lost a lot of close games so for us to get one like this is just good for our mentality. We're very much in it in the conference. We know we can play with anybody and I think sometimes we forget that when results don't go our way.

"We're still a very good team and we just need to keep getting better. I thought our energy was really good tonight. We defended tough, came out hungry, got a couple early, and that just let us breathe a little bit and play. We played with an edge and a toughness we haven't seen as much as we need to."
