COLUMBUS, Ohio - WBCA Division II No. 2 Ashland used a big fourth quarter to defeat the Lady Jackets, 84-74, in the Midwest Region Crossover at Ohio Dominican University.
The contest was the season opener for both teams.
The Eagles outscored Cedarville 28-13 over the final ten minutes after the Lady Jackets had held the lead through much of the opening three periods.
Ashland broke a 70-70 tie on two free throws with 2:47 remaining and never trailed again.
Ashlyn Huffman pumped in a career-high 23 points to go along with six assists.
Baylee Bennett scored 16 points and
Regina Hochstetler chipped in 13.
Stinger Notes:
- Cedarville made 12-of-22 three-pointers with Bennett and Huffman draining four apiece.
- Starting guard Abby Wolford played her first game since the G-MAC Championship Game at Ursuline on March 5, 2016 after missing the past two seasons with injuries.
- Huffman's previous career high was 22 points vs. Lake Erie.
- Ashland outscored the Jackets 25-6 from the free throw line.
- The Eagles have an incredible 105-3 record over the past three-plus seasons.
- AU leads Cedarville, 16-11, in the all-time season series.
- Ohio Dominican edged Quincy, 64-61, in the second game of the night.
