CARY, N.C. - Cedarville closed out its nine-game spring break trip by splitting a doubleheader at the USA Baseball National Training Center.
The Yellow Jackets edged Dominican NY, 5-4, before dropping a 6-3 decision to Franklin Pierce.
Freshman second baseman
Payton Eeles led the offense in the first game. He went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.
Logan Eby doubled in a run while
Matthew Biermann and
Connor Culhane added doubles.
Starting pitcher
Gage Voorhees, 3-0, allowed one earned run on three hits in six innings. He struck out six and walked one.
Trace Gillis tossed two innings and
Noah Schleinitz worked the ninth for his second save.
Franklin Pierce held on in the second game thanks to a three-run ninth inning. Cedarville scored twice in the bottom half and had the tying run at the plate.
Eby was 3-for-4 at the plate.
Turner White totaled two hits and two runs with Biermann recording two hits for the Yellow Jackets, 4-7.
Stinger Notes:
- Hunter Kraynak made his first career start on the mound against Franklin Pierce.
- Eeles started all nine games on the trip batting .367 with six steals and five runs scored.
- Bryce Hughes sat out the last three games, but hit .391 and scored nine times over the break.
- Voorhees was 2-0 in two starts with 14 K's and a 0.82 ERA.
- Cedarville opens G-MAC play with a four-game series vs. Ohio Valley beginning Thursday at Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio.
