Jacket comeback shocks Lake Erie again

PAINESVILLE, Ohio - Branden Maughmer scored 26 points including a game-tying triple late in regulation and Cedarville went on to stun Lake Erie in overtime, 98-91, in a key G-MAC contest.

It was the eighth straight victory for the Yellow Jackets, 16-8 overall and 11-3 G-MAC, who erased a 20-point deficit to win an OT road game for the third time this season.

Maughmer's three-pointer from the left wing with 1.3 seconds remaining tied the score, 85-85, to cap off a second half in which CU trailed 63-43 with 15:23 to go.

The sophomore guard hit another trey with 2:50 left in overtime to give the visitors the lead for good.

Isaiah Speelman came off bench to score 21 points. Conner TenHove (15), Demond Parker (13), and Kollin Van Horn (11) also scored in double figures.

The outcome was almost identical to the Yellow Jackets OT win against the Storm in the Callan Athletic Center back on December 5.

In that game, CU trailed by as many as 12 points, Quinton Green's triple late in regulation tied it, and the home team eventually won it, 77-69.

Stinger Notes:
  • Cedarville also dug out of 20-point holes earlier this year in OT wins at Central State and Lynn.
  • Maughmer added seven assists to what was his sixth 20-point game of the season.
  • Speelman is averaging 17.7 ppg in the past six games.
  • Van Horn has four straight contests in double figures (15.5 ppg).
  • The .519 accuracy outside the arc (14-for-27) was a season-high.
  • The Jackets are shooting .555 from the field over the course of the last six outings.
  • Cedarville has won four consecutive overtime games.
  • The Yellow Jackets hold a 10-3 advantage in the all-time series vs. Lake Erie.
