CEDARVILLE, Ohio - No. 8 seed Cedarville takes on defending NCAA Division II champion and No. 1 seed Grand Valley State in the opening round of the Midwest Regional on Thursday.
Game time at the GVSU Soccer Field in Allendale, Mich. is at 1:00 p.m. EST with coverage on the
Grand Valley Sports Network and
SIDEARM Stats.
The Lady Jackets are 12-5-2 as the G-MAC Tournament runner-up for the second straight time.
It's taken a good side to take down Cedarville this fall.
- The Jackets lost three one-goal affairs to G-MAC champion and No. 15 ranked Ashland.
- Lost a 2-1 decision at home to then No. 25 Lee - now unbeaten and ranked No. 2.
- Lost the season opener at Indianapolis, 4-1, to a team ranked as high as No. 12.
The only opponent to figure out Grand Valley State, 18-1-2, this season is Ferris State.
After playing to a pair of draws during the regular season, the Bulldogs stunned the Lakers, 1-0, in the GLIAC Final last Sunday thus ending GVSU's run of winning 14 straight crowns.
There's no doubting the contrast in post-season experience. Cedarville's only other appearance came in 2015 as G-MAC champions and they dropped their opening round game to Truman, 1-0.
Grand Valley State owns six NCAA Division II National Championship trophies.
The teams have met twice previously with GVSU winning 2-0 at home in 2017 as well as 5-0 in Cedarville in 2018.
Thursday's first game features No. 4 McKendree, 12-2-4, against No. 5 Indianapolis, 10-3-3, at 10:00 a.m. The winners meet on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
