NORTH CANTON, Ohio - The Yellow Jackets came through in the second half to end a 15-year drought at Walsh with a big 74-70 G-MAC win over the host Cavaliers.
Just 24 hours separate the rematch when the two teams play again in the Callan Athletic Center on Thursday in a regularly scheduled contest.Â
Conner TenHove scored 15 of his game-high 17 points in the second period to lead a balanced offense for Cedarville, 9-5 overall and 9-5 G-MAC.
Branden Maughmer had 16 points,
Jacob Drees totaled 15 points with a game-high eight rebounds, and
Isaiah Speelman added 13 points.
The Jackets trailed by ten points early in the second half before going on a 23-9 run to make a game of it.
Speelman's three-pointer with 7:02 left gave CU the lead for good. The visitors converted six straight free throws in the final minute to preserve the outcome.
Stinger Notes:
- The game was initially to be played on December 19 but was postponed once by COVID and again by the weather.
- Cedarville committed a season-low five turnovers.
- Drees' 15 points was the most since scoring 23 in the season opener vs. Ohio Valley.
- Maughmer is 23-for-25 (.920) at the line in the last seven games.
- There were ten lead changes and five ties.
- CU has made 30 three-pointers during its three-game winning streak.
- The Yellow Jackets had lost ten straight at Walsh since winning there 79-71 on February 11, 2006.
- The Cavaliers lead the all-time series, 49-43, which began in the 1965-66 season.
