Trace Gillis pitched seven strong innings and
Daniel Sewak homered to lead Cedarville to a 10-2 win over Grand Valley State to close out the Tobs College Classic at Fleming Stadium.
Gillis, 1-0, allowed one earned run on three hits with four strikeouts.
Kevin Zhang fanned two over the final two innings.
Sewak powered the offense by going 3-for-4 with a walk, stolen base, three RBI, and two runs scored. His two-run shot in the third inning gave the Yellow Jackets the lead for good at 3-1.
Austin Brown,
Jacob Clements,
Blais Hale, and
Lucas Rotello all registered two hits apiece.
Clements added a pair of RBI and two runs scored while Brown and Rotello both crossed the plate twice.
Cedarville totaled 13 hits, four for extra bases, and took advantage of nine walks.
Stinger Notes:
- All nine players in the batting order reached base at least once.
- Micah Stewart tripled with Brown and Clements adding doubles.
- Payton Eeles and Sewak were both credited with stolen bases.
- Rotello has hit safely in all six outings to date with four multi-hit games.
- The Jackets and GVSU have split their two meetings in the all-time series.
- CU opens the G-MAC and home schedules with a four-game weekend series vs. Walsh.
