COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Yellow Jackets exploded for 12 runs in the sixth inning which carried them to a 14-8 victory at Ohio Dominican in the nightcap of their G-MAC doubleheader.
The hosts checked Cedarville on one hit in the opener, 6-0.
It looked like the Jackets were going down again in the seven-inning second game trailing 6-2 entering the sixth.
The visitors sent 16 batters to the plate and did the damage on just four hits. They took advantage of seven walks, three hit batters, and four wild pitches to score 12 times.
Jacob Clements totaled three hits - two in the sixth inning. He also drove in three runs with two of those coming in the sixth.
Lucas Rotello had two hits with a double and two RBI.
Austin Brown added two hits, two steals, and three runs scored.
Payton Eeles came across the plate three times as well for Cedarville, 9-9 overall and 6-4 G-MAC.
Reliever
Kevin Zhang, 1-1, got the win as the second of four Yellow jacket pitchers.
In the first game, a third-inning single by
Kale Ebling was all the offense CU could muster.
Stinger Notes:
- Cedarville had dropped 11 straight to ODU dating back to the 2009 season.
- The Jackets had six batters hit-by-pitch in the second game with Blais Hale absorbing two.
- CU scored five runs on bases loaded walks or hit-by-pitch and four more on wild pitches.
- Nine different players crossed the plate.
- Starter Noah Schleinitz struck out seven batters in 3 2/3 innings.
- Cedarville had just 29 batters go to the plate in the nine-inning first game.
- Pitchers Drew Minnich and Luke Swanger combined to fan eight Panthers.
