MASON, Ohio - No. 2 seed Walsh hung on to edge No. 7 Cedarville, 3-1, in the first round of the G-MAC Baseball Championship at Prasco Park.
The Jackets, 17-22, meet No. 3 Ohio Dominican in an elimination game on Thursday at Legacy Field beginning at 10:00 a.m. EDT.
It was a pitchers' duel from the start and CU senior
Noah Schleinitz did his part. He went seven innings allowing two earned runs on five hits with nine strikeouts.
The Cavaliers produced a run in the first and another in the fourth on a home run down the left field line that was rule fair.
The Jackets got a run back in the sixth when
Austin Brown tripled and scored on
Lucas Rotello's dribbler up the first base line.
A sacrifice fly in the eighth gave Walsh an insurance run. The Yellow Jackets got a couple one out singles in the ninth, however, the contest ended on a 4-6-3 double play.
Stinger Notes:
