ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Yellow Jackets erased a big second-half deficit only to watch Lewis recover for a 69-65 non-conference victory at Neil Carey Arena.
It was the first setback of the young season for Cedarville, 3-1.
The visitors faced a 57-39 hole with 11:36 remaining before charging back to take the lead.
Grant Whisman's three-pointer capped a 23-4 explosion that gave CU a 62-61 edge with 3:45 to go.
However, the Flyers answered with back-to-back triples to regain the advantage for good.
Jayvon Maughmer pumped in a career-high 25 points and freshman guard
Ethan Sellars came off the bench with a career-best 16.
Stinger Notes:
- Maughmer buried five three-pointers and Sellars hit four.
- Cedarville did not attempt a free throw in the first half while the hosts went 10-for-13.
- Drees pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and Maughmer had four assists.
- A basket by Lewis with 23 seconds left were the only points scored by either team in the final 2:20.
- The Flyers have won all six meetings between the two schools.
