CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville and Malone ended up splitting their four-game G-MAC series by swapping close decisions in Saturday's doubleheader.
The Yellow Jackets won the opener, 5-3, with the visitors taking the second contest, 6-5.
CU began the day by building a five-run lead after two innings and then withstanding the Pioneers' three-run sixth.
Winning pitcher
Tanner Gillis, 3-1, struck out five over six innings and
Reid Hale fanned two more in the seventh to get his third save.
Austin Brown,
Payton Eeles, and
Lucas Rotello all had two hits each.
In the nightcap, Malone scored twice in the eighth inning and then held on for the one-run win.
Rotello recorded three of the team's five hits including a triple, RBI, and run scored for the Yellow Jackets, 11-16 overall and 5-6 G-MAC.
Stinger Notes:
- Rotello went 8-for-15 in the series (.533) with a double, triple, three RBI, and three runs scored
- The pitching staff posted a 3.38 ERA with 30 strikeouts throughout the four gamesÂ
- Eeles had his 20-game hitting streak snapped in the second game
- Malone won the two nine-inning games and CU took both seven-inning contests
- The Pioneers turned three double plays in the final game and the Jackets had two
- Neither team hit a home run during the weekend
