Lake Erie walks off with sweep of Yellow Jackets

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Lake Erie stunned Cedarville not once, but twice, with G-MAC walk off victories at Yellow Jacket Field.

The Storm, who were playing as the home team since their venue was unavailable, won by scores of 2-1 and then 9-8 in 13 innings.

In the nightcap, CU squandered an early four-run lead and then needed to score twice in the ninth to tie it.

A one-out double followed by a single in the bottom of the 13th won it for the 'visitors.'

Blais Hale totaled three hits with a double and three runs scored for Cedarville, 21-22 overall and 15-12 G-MAC.

The Jackets missed a golden opportunity to win the seven-inning opener. They loaded the bases with nobody out in their final at bat, but failed to dent the plate.

Lake Erie took advantage of two walks, a wild pitch, and a base hit in the bottom half to win it.

Stinger Notes:
  • Lake Erie entered the doubleheader 4-33 overall and 2-24 G-MAC.
  • The second game lasted 4:16 and required 409 pitches to complete.
  • The Jackets had one base runner in extra innings and he was stranded at third in the 11th.
  • The relievers allowed but one earned run and struck out seven in nine innings of work of the nightcap.
  • First game starter Tanner Gillis struck out ten with one walk in five innings.
  • Payton Eeles advanced his hitting streak to 16 and has reached base in all 43 games.
  • Lucas Rotello registered two hits in each contest.
