MARQUETTE, Mich. - Cedarville rallied from a pair of 2-1 deficits to claim back-to-back five-set victories to open the campaign at the Northern Michigan Open.
The Jackets defeated Bemidji State, 19-25, 25-14, 21-25, 25-22, 15-5 before outlasting the host Wildcats, 23-25, 25-20, 20-25, 25-19, 15-10.
Freshman
Cam Davenport made her collegiate debut with 12 kills and 16 digs against BSU.
Classmate
Haley Koch added ten kills with four blocks while rookie setter
Kaley Matney had 33 assists.
Davenport hammered 17 kills vs. NMU with ten apiece coming from
Riley Hensley and
Cassi Shields.
Mallory Delamarter racked up 17 digs while Matney produced 43 assists and 16 digs.
Stinger Notes:
- CU trailed Bemidji State 22-21 in the fourth set, but finished with a 19-5 run.
- The Jackets never trailed in the fifth set of either contest.
- Last fall, Cedarville was 2-3 in five setters.
- There were 29 tie scores and 14 lead changes against Northern Michigan.
- In the fifth set combined, the Jackets hit at a .484 accuracy on the day.
- CU is 2-0 all-time vs. Bemidji State and 3-5 vs. NMU.
