Lady Jackets end No. 22 Hillsdale’s G-MAC streak

CU was last conference team to beat the Chargers

HIGHLIGHTS

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Cedarville halted No. 22 Hillsdale's 78-match G-MAC regular season winning streak in a five-set thriller at the Callan Athletic Center to begin Homecoming Weekend.

The Lady Jackets pulled off the upset by scores of 11-25, 25-17, 27-25, 24-26, 15-11.

Ironically, CU was the last G-MAC opponent to defeat the five-time defending champion Chargers in a four-set outcome in Michigan on Sept. 15, 2017.

The hosts recovered from an opening set wipeout and controlled the majority of the match the rest of the way. They never trailed in the fifth set.

Cassi Shields hammered 18 kills to lead the attack for Cedarville, 8-8 overall and 6-3 G-MAC.

She was joined in double figures by Riley Hensley (15), Haley Koch (11), and Cam Davenport (10).

Koch rejected six blocks, Kaley Matney totaled 54 assists, and Lexi Glynn came up with 20 digs.

Stinger Notes:
  • Shield's kills (18), Koch's blocks (6), Matney's assists (54), and Glynn's digs (20) were all career-highs.
  • Payton Krahn chipped in a career-high 19 digs.
  • Janae Heegaard added four blocks.
  • There were 25 tie scores and 14 lead changes.
  • CU served one match point in the fourth set before Hillsdale forced a fifth.
  • The Jackets tallied the first three points in the final set and built a six-point cushion.
  • The Chargers hold an 11-3 advantage in the all-time series.
