Ashland clips Yellow Jackets, 69-68

ASHLAND, Ohio - Ashland halted Cedarville's four-game winning streak by squeaking out a 69-68 G-MAC result at Kates Gymnasium.

Chris Rogers hit five triples and scored a season-high 17 points for the Yellow Jackets, 10-4 overall and 3-3 G-MAC.

Jacob Drees' fourth consecutive double-double consisted of 14 points and 13 rebounds.

Jayvon Maughmer netted 15 points and Grant Whisman tallied ten.

After CU bolted to a 12-2 lead in the opening four minutes, the hosts recovered and it was tight the rest of the way.

Only two points were scored by each team in the final three minutes of the game and the Jackets missed on a potential game-winning field goal in the waning seconds.

Stinger Notes:
  • Rogers' career-high is 23 points during his sophomore season at Trevecca vs. Findlay.
  • Drees posted his seventh double-double and tacked on four blocked shots.
  • Maughmer and Drees led the team in assists with four each.
  • The Jackets made 9-of-16 three-pointers in the second half.
  • CU was outscored 12-1 at the free throw line on three attempts - both season-lows.
  • Neither team scored a field goal in the final 2:45 of the contest.
  • Ashland leads the all-time series, 38-11.
  • The two teams meet again at the Callan Athletic Center on Feb. 16.
