COSTA MESA, Calif. - Vanguard edged the Yellow Jackets, 4-3, in the first meeting of a three-game series at Dean Harvey Field.

Kaden Wilde walked to open the game, moved to third on Eli Henderson's base hit, and then scored when Chris Montes de Oca grounded into a double play.

The Lions, 2-2,  made the most of limited opportunities by scoring four unearned runs - three in the first inning.

The hosts tacked on another unearned run in the fourth inning, but CU's pitching tightened up by allowing only three hits the rest of the way.

The Jackets pulled a run back in the fifth inning when Grayson Weikel's ball was misplayed by the first baseman with the bases loaded scoring Micah George.

Cedarville, 0-2, cut the difference to 4-3 in the eighth on an odd sequence of plays.

Weikel was hit-by-pitch, advanced to second on a balk, moved up to third on a fly out, and then scored on another balk.

The two teams wrap up the series on Saturday with a doubleheader.
