Yellow Jackets, Malone trade victories in series wrap-up

CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Cedarville and Malone split a G-MAC doubleheader on a blustery day at Yellow Jacket Field.

The Yellow Jackets controlled the seven-inning opener from the outset, scoring four runs in the first inning en route to a 7-0 victory. The Pioneers responded in the nightcap, using a late surge to claim an 8-4 decision in the nine-inning contest.

Cedarville's Game 1 win was powered by a dominant performance from Max Doepker, who improved to 2-1 on the season. The left-hander tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing six hits while benefiting from strong defensive support that included four double plays.

Offensively, six Yellow Jackets recorded hits in the opener. Doepker also contributed at the plate with two singles and an RBI.

In Game 2, Cedarville battled back from an early 4-0 deficit to even the score at 4-4 by the end of the third inning. The game remained scoreless until the ninth inning, when Malone broke through with four runs to secure the win.

Landon Case delivered a strong relief outing, striking out six batters over 6 1/3 innings. Grayson Weikel led the offense with three hits, including a pair of doubles for the Jackets, 16-24 overall and 10-14 G-MAC.
