ALLENDALE, Mich. – Cedarville split a pair of matches on Friday, sweeping Slippery Rock before falling in three sets to host Grand Valley State.
The Lady Jackets rolled past Slippery Rock 25-13, 25-15. 25-16, while hitting .295 with 37 kills. Cedarville was strong defensively at the net with nine team blocks and held The Rock to an impressive -.054 attack percentage on the day.
Madelyn Hensley led the attack with 12 kills on a .370 hitting percentage, while also being involved in four blocks.
Carley Craighead contributed 6 kills without an error, hit .545, and also took part in five blocks.
Kaylnn Stoner added six kills and hit .500.
Sidney Shepherd dished out 28 assists and
Alivia Rutt anchored the back row with 11 digs. As a team CU served 6 aces in the victory, their second most so far during the young season.
In the evening match Cedarville faced off against #20 Grand Valley State. This was the Lady Jackets fourth ranked opponent of the season and they battled the Lakers throughout a tight opening set. The frame featured 10 ties before GVSU outlasted CU for a 25-22 result and then went on to take the next two sets, 25-15 and 25-10.
Hensley finished with 8 kills with Allie PIlat adding 7 more. Shepherd totaled 20 assists and nine digs, with Rutt collecting a team-high 10 digs.
