GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Cedarville dropped a pair of four-set matches on Saturday at the Grand Rapids Downtown Classic against Saginaw Valley State and Davenport.
The Lady Jackets opened with a 25-17, 14-25, 25-20, 25-19 setback to the Cardinals in the early match. CU initially bounced back from the opening set by hitting .357 with 14 kills in a convincing second set victory.
Madelyn Hensley and
Allie Pilat led the attack with 12 kills apiece. Pilat added four service aces, while Hensley was involved in five blocks.
Alivia Rutt anchored the defense with 23 digs, and
Sidney Shepherd handed out 35 assists.
Cedarville totaled eight team blocks and six aces against Saginaw Valley State.
The Lady Jackets returned to action later in the day against Davenport and started strong with a 25-22 opening set victory. The next three frames were tightly contested, including a 26-24 finish in both the second and fourth sets, as the Panthers outlasted the Lady Jackets, 3-1.
Hensley led CU with 13 kills while Pilat added 10. Freshman Sienna Hanson delivered an efficient performance with 9 kills and just one error in 15 attempts for a .533 hitting percentage.
Rutt finished with a season-high 28 digs and three service aces against Davenport, while Shepherd recorded 40 assists and 8 digs.
The Lady Jackets drop to 2-5 overall. They will return home for their next contest to open G-MAC play against HIllsdale on Friday.
