DEARBORN, Mich. - The Lady Jackets rallied in the fifth set to outlast Bethel (Ind.) at the Michigan-Dearborn Challenge after dropping a five-set decision earlier in the day to Illinois Tech.
Cedarville, 3-6 overall, trailed Bethel 11-6 in the fifth set, but rebounded to pull out a 29-27, 17-25, 18-25, 25-20, 15-13 victory. Kylee Husak pounded 19 kills and turned aside nine blocks to lead the assault at the net. Sarah Hartman produced 11 kills and five blocks while Emily Shade contributed nine kills.
Emilie Lynch set up 26 assists with 18 more coming from Erica Bartholomew. Heather Kirkpartrick tallied 20 digs, Casey Hinzman came up with 14, and Lauren Gill added three blocks. [STATS]
Illinois Tech dealt the Lady Jackets a 25-19, 17-25, 21-25, 25-18, 15-13 setback in the first match of the day. CU rallied from an 8-1 deficit to tie the final frame 13-13, but fell short. It was the program's first five-set loss in two years after going 9-0 in such contests last fall.
Shade had 11 kills and three blocks. Husak racked up eight kills and six blocks while Liz Sweeney and Justine Christiaanse added eights kills each.
Bartholomew handed out 21 assists and Lynch had 18. Hinzman paced the back line with 16 digs and Kirkpatrick totaled 14. [STATS]
