COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio Dominican grabbed its first lead of the game with 12 seconds left and took advantage of a late-game collapse by NAIA Division II #12 Cedarville to pull off a 65-62 upset in non-conference action.
The Yellow Jackets had this one all but wrapped up. They enjoyed double-digit leads in both halves and the margin was still 60-53 with less that two minutes to go.
The host Panthers, who ended a four-game losing streak to improve to 7-10 overall, outscored Cedarville 12-2 down the stretch. The go-ahead three-pointer gave ODU a 63-62 lead. The Jackets elected not to call timeout and raced down the floor where they had a shot blocked and the hosts added a meaningless lay-in at the buzzer.
Amazingly, Cedarville did not score a field goal in the last 7:53 of the contest after a Ricardo Alliman dunk produced a 55-44 lead. The Yellow Jackets then missed their final seven shots from the field.
CU converted just 7-of-15 free throws in the final eight minutes allowing the Panthers an opportunity for a comeback. The Jackets were 14-of-25 at the stripe for the game.
Austin Foote came off the bench with 15 points. Alliman finished with 14 points and 16 rebounds while Chris Beals added 11 points. Cedarville has lost three-of-four to drop to 9-6. [STATS]
