MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - NAIA Division II #23 Cedarville produced a much-needed win with a 75-56 decision at Mount Vernon Nazarene in an American Mideast Conference contest.
The Yellow Jackets were reeling after suffering two last-second upset losses last week. This time, they made sure to avoid another such defeat by coming through with a solid second half.
Cedarville, 11-7 overall and 3-2 AMC, actually never trailed after Matt Harner hit a three-pointer with 12:25 remaining in the opening frame. The visitors eased out to a 28-21 halftime lead and then immediately increased the margin to 11 early in the second period. With the difference at 50-40 with 8:35 on the clock, a 13-2 CU run finished off the Cougars.
Chris Beals hit all nine of his free throws and tallied 19 points to go along with five steals while Harner added 14. Ricardo Alliman scored just eight points, all in the second half, but added 11 rebounds, four blocks, and three assists.
Cedarville controlled the boards by a decisive 47-32 margin. MVNU falls to 8-11 and 1-6 AMC. [STATS]
